'How are you living your life?' Original
77 x 113cm
Original Acrylic Painting on Raw Belgian Linen Canvas
This piece is an original painting from my latest collection ‘MORE OF ME’
Honestly, the title from this piece was inspired by the song (actually entire album ‘GOD SAID NO’) I couldn’t stop listening to at the time from Omar Apollo. I had recently been to see him perform at the Hordern Pavilion in July, prior to which I hadn’t listening to him much.
A close friend had a spare ticket, so on a whim I drove out there to see him play, and honestly since that night I have never been the same. It sounds dramatic, but its true.
That night Omar showed up onstage as the most energetic, unapologetic and authentic energy I have ever witnessed. For the next 3 months, I played that album from start to finish multiple times a day. I owe this painting, and entire ‘MORE OF ME’ collection to that album, and Omar’s vulnerability.
This still life piece is a thank you to all the music, art, fashion, freedom, abundance, ritual and endless beauty and influence that surrounds us.
‘MORE OF ME’ has been an opportunity of reflection and realignment with myself. I have always resonated with the saying, "everything happens for a reason," especially during times of discomfort. Through the lessons and growth of the past twelve months, this belief has found a deeper resonance.
The concept of ‘self-love’ varies for everyone, but for me, it is closely linked to my creative practice. Recent events in my life have gifted me with a deeper respect and appreciation for the precious nature of my creativity. This gratitude extends to my spiritual and physical connection with my body, which I explored through these works.
Through vulnerability, colour and playfulness, I was fortunate to produce these 12 original paintings, which I am deeply grateful for. I hope you feel a sense of peace and harmony whilst experiencing them, and I thank you for sharing this period of growth with me.
